Product summary

Judging from the ingredient list, "Replenix - Brightening Eye Cream for Discoloration" works well for improving skin hydration This moisturizer uses a good combo of humectants and emollients. These both types of ingredients are essentials for improving the skin hydration and keeping the skin barrier healthy. Cyclomethicone, glycerin, sodium hyaluronate, sodium pca and butylene glycol in this product (humectants) attract water molecules to the upper layer of the skin (the water comes from the outside air or from the deeper layers of the skin if the air is dry). Emollients in this formulation (ceramide ng, palmitoyl tetrapeptide-7, cyclomethicone, cetyl alcohol and c13-14 isoparaffin) help to reduce the moisture loss from the skin. They also soften the skin surface and relieve the feeling of dryness and tightness.

Ingredient callouts

  • We love that this moisturizer contains a good concentration of niacinamide 25.00% - 31.00%. Niacinamide is a perfect active in a moistruizer because it helps calm down inflamation in skin and support the skin barrier. More than that, it is helpful for most common skin concerns: it helps regulat oil production, help reduce acne and clogged pores, improve skin tone and prevent pigmentation marks. It also helps fight photodamage.
  • This product also contains vitamin C (Ascorbic Acid). It can be an effective active for anti-aging and evening out the skin tone, but in this moisturizer it is used for stabilizing other ingredients in the formulation. In this concentration (0.30% - 0.60%) it cannot have a noticeable benefit for the skin.
  • This moisturizer contains an effective form of retinoids (vitamin A): retinol 0.30% - 0.60% and retinol 1.40% - 1.80%. Retinoids are potent multitasking actives. They work to improve and prevent early signs of aging, reduce hyperpigmentation (age spots and post-acne marks), and prevent inflamed blemishes and clogged pores. The downside of retinoids is that they can be irritating. If you are not already using a retinoid in your routine, it is best to start slowly and apply the retinoid product only a few times per week. If your skin tolerates it well, you can gradually increase the frequency to daily. Because of the irritation risk of retinoids, we recommend to have another, retinoid-free moisturizer in your routine to use on the alternative days or when your skin feels dry.
  • As a plus, this moisturizer also contains ceramides (ceramide ng 0.45% - 0.65% and ceramide ng 3.20% - 4.00%). Ceramides are a type of lipids that our skin produces itself. They are a building block of the skin's barrier. Ceramides used in skincare are synthetic or extracted from plants. They work well for softening the skin surface and "patch holes" in the skin's barrier.
  • We like that this moisturizer contains peptides (palmitoyl pentapeptide-4 0.60% - 0.90%, palmitoyl hexapeptide-12 0.65% - 1.00%, dipeptide-2 0.75% - 1.10%, palmitoyl tetrapeptide-7 1.10% - 1.30%, palmitoyl oligopeptide 1.30% - 1.60%, palmitoyl tetrapeptide-7 0.45% - 0.70%, palmitoyl oligopeptide 0.45% - 0.70%, dipeptide-2 0.35% - 0.60%, palmitoyl pentapeptide-4 0.30% - 0.55% and palmitoyl hexapeptide-12 0.30% - 0.55%). There are many different kind of peptides and they are naturally present in our skin. They all are a combination of amino-acids. Some of them work as natural anti-biotics, promote wound-healing and production of collagen. The science is still not settled on how effective peptides in skincare are, but it is very likely that they have a benefit. Peptides might help restore the skin barrier and fight the signs of aging. At the very least, peptides work as humectants: they attract water to the upper layer of the skin and improve its hydration.
