Product Summary

Judging from the ingredient list, "Follain - Mattifying Moisturizer: Oil Control" works well for improving skin hydration To work well, any moisturizer needs to include a combination of water-binding and emollient ingredients. Follain - Mattifying Moisturizer: Oil Control ticks this box. Glycerin, sodium hyaluronate and rosa damascena flower water in this product (humectants) attract water molecules to the upper layer of the skin (the water comes from the outside air or from the deeper layers of the skin if the air is dry). Emollients in this formulation (coco-caprylate/caprate, coconut alkanes and heptyl undecylenate) help to reduce the moisture loss from the skin. They also soften the skin surface and relieve the feeling of dryness and tightness.

Ingredient callouts

  • Exfoliating acids (glycolic acid 1.00% - 1.50%). In this concentration, they will have a noticeable exfoliating effect. They can also have an anti-aging effect and stimulate collagen production in a long-run. PHAs (gluconolactone 3.60% - 5.50%) in this product also work for improving skin hydration. They might be even able to stimulate the production of skin's natural humectants and support the healthy skin microbiome.
  • Bakuchiol in this moisturizer (the concentration is about 0.40% - 0.90%). Helps fight photodamage (wrinkles, elasticity loss and pigmentation) and can reduce clogged pores and blemishes. Bakuchiol is a compound extracted from a plant Babchi. It acts similar to retinoids, but with less irritation risk.
  • This moisturizer also contains Peptides (palmitoyl tripeptide-5 0.35% - 0.75%). Peptides are a very big group of ingredients. They all consist of a different combination of aminoacids. Our skin produces Peptides naturally. Some of them work as natural antibiotics, promote wound-healing and production of collagen. The scientists are still studying how effective the topical application of Peptides is, but it is very likely that they are helpful. Peptides might be able to support skin barrier restoration and even have an anti-aging benefit. At the very least, they certainly help attract water to the skin and support the hydration in this way.
This product contains ingredients that could be beneficial, but their concentrations are too low in this formulation: allantoin
