Product Summary

Judging from the ingredient list, "Follain - CALM BALANCED COMPLETE RITUAL" works well for improving skin hydration To work well, any moisturizer needs to include a combination of water-binding and emollient ingredients. Follain - CALM BALANCED COMPLETE RITUAL ticks this box. Humectants in this product (arginine, galactoarabinan, glycerin, sodium hyaluronate and sodium lactate) help to increase the water content in the upper layer of the skin. (These ingredients do so by "capturing" water molecules from the outside air or from within the deeper layers of the skin). Emollients in this formulation (borago officinalis seed oil, vitis vinifera seed oil, arginine, squalane and coco-caprylate/caprate) help to reduce the moisture loss from the skin. They also soften the skin surface and relieve the feeling of dryness and tightness.

Ingredient callouts

  • This product contains acids (gluconolactone 0.10% - 0.25%, gluconolactone 0.05% - 0.15%, lactic acid 0.15% - 0.25%, glycolic acid 0.15% - 0.25% and glycolic acid 0.10% - 0.15%). Their concentration is low, and they will not have a strong exfoliating effect. Instead, they work to support the skin natural acid mantle and to attract water (as humectants). PHAs (gluconolactone and gluconolactone) especially are great for improving skin hydration. They might be even able to stimulate the production of skin's natural humectants and support the healthy skin microbiome.
  • Bakuchiol in this moisturizer (the concentration is about 0.15% - 0.25%). Helps fight photodamage (wrinkles, elasticity loss and pigmentation) and can reduce clogged pores and blemishes. Bakuchiol is a compound extracted from a plant Babchi. It acts similar to retinoids, but with less irritation risk.
  • This moisturizer also contains Peptides (palmitoyl tripeptide-5 0.10% - 0.15% and palmitoyl tripeptide-38 0.10% - 0.20%). Peptides are a very big group of ingredients. They all consist of a different combination of aminoacids. Our skin produces Peptides naturally. Some of them work as natural antibiotics, promote wound-healing and production of collagen. The scientists are still studying how effective the topical application of Peptides is, but it is very likely that they are helpful. Peptides might be able to support skin barrier restoration and even have an anti-aging benefit. At the very least, they certainly help attract water to the skin and support the hydration in this way.
This product contains ingredients that could be beneficial, but their concentrations are too low in this formulation: salicylic acid, panthenol, myristyl myristate, lactic acid, gluconolactone, gluconolactone, dipotassium glycyrrhizate, dipotassium glycyrrhizate, camellia oleifera seed oil and allantoin
