Hi, sorry this will be a long question, I’ve been trying to work out my skincare routine over the last few months, I’ve struggled on the past with a lot of products causing pimples blackheads or redness and have recently started working on skincare again after realising I had sensitive acne prone skin and learning more about what that means for my skincare, my skin also leans to the dryer side and I’m a 22y/o female.
I started out using the Cerave SA cleanser earlier in the year and then picked up the La Roche Posay Tolleriane night cream which worked well over winter calmed my redness cleared my skin but I still noticed closed comodones and coming into spring/summer I started noticing pimples popping up more again so I switched to the purito B5 Panthenol Rebarrier cream which I found to be not hydrating enough and slightly irritating in my skin, to try and bring in more hydration and because my skin seems to love niacinamide I splurged a bit and bought in the Aesthetics Rx B serum but then noticed afterwards both it and my cleanser contain Gluconolactone a PHA (in low amounts 2-4%) and while I use one at night and one in the morning I’m not sure if it’s over exfoliating my skin at all particularly with the salicylic acid (0.5%) in the cleanser too, I’ve switched to the Ilyoon ato ceramide soothing gel (I stick to light products as oils and shea butter tend to break me out) and I’ve noticed that’s helped a little bit with the redness the purito product was causing but I’m still noticing forehead wrinkles that appear to be worsening/deepening by the day and I’m only 22, I’ve also only been using these products all together a few weeks (started with the cereve cleanser a few months back and slowly bought in more products) looking for more opinions because I’m looking at the aesthetics Rx sunscreen too as it’s on sale currently but it also has that PHA in it again at a similar very low concentration and I don’t want to make the wrinkle situation worse. What do you guys think of my routine? Should I add anything? Remove anything? I’m currently tossing up swapping the cereve cleanser for a gentler La Roche Posay Tolleriane one and Im thinking I want to try the skin1004 centella ampoule for more hydration and redness/pimple/comodone management but I’m starting to think myself in circles and I need another opinion. Thank you for any help/advice that can be offered!
I would scale back on the number of products to use to identify which product is causing an issue/breakouts. I love Cerave because as fragrances and oils can irritate my skin. Have you tried Cerave foaming cleanser? If you over cleanse or exfoliate can cause breakouts too. I tend to do better with oil free skin care/sunscreen and foundation. I follow a few dermatologists on YouTube/ IG. Love Doctorly and Dr Shereene Iridris. I will forward you they all earn commissions on products they promote but I try to pay attention if it’s a review vs sponsored products. I hope this helps. Good luck!
