My skin is very reactive.
Hi, I use Garnier Miceller Water AM & PM. Then Revolution Hyaluronic acid Toner AM & PM.
Day time moisturising varies, normally a tinted moisturiser with an oil on top. Varies from day to day, and to be honest, whatever I am using up at the time.
Evening I use Dermatica prescribed cream, which is 0.1% Tretinion, and Azelic Acid. Then I put an Garnier Night Cream on.
I have been using the Dermatica for 16 months.
My face recently is sore, sometimes red, and dehydrated.
My face
I would recommend you to pause tretinoin for a couple of days until your face is no longer sore and gets red easily.
No need to use micellar water in the morning, just a splash with normal water is ok to refresh. When using micellar water n the evening, make sure to rinse it off with water no matter what the product instructions say.
It is probably a good idea to change your moisturizer to something that is fragrance free and ideally with ceramides & niacinamide (any Cerave moisturizer will do, and there are many similar ones).
Are you using a sunscreen daily?
I’d also recommend avoid experimenting with products - stick to a simple routine, use sunscreen and don’t let your skin get to the point of irritation (it is actually undoing the good stuff that actives like tretinoin are doing. Irritation = inflammation, and inflammation speeds up aging 😭)
*typo: I meant pausing tretinoin until your skin isn’t red any more
Thank you! Is there anything else I need in my skin care ie vit c, peptides etc. There is so much to remember! I would like to optimise my anti ageing!
A moisturizer with peptides would be a good choice - they are not irritating, support skin barrier and can help with anti-aging 👍. I would wait before introducing vitamin C for a couple of months - I think it's important that you restore your skin barrier fully, and your skin gets comfortable with the tretinoin again. Whatever benefits actives provide, inflammation in a sensitized can cancel them out fully, so I'd go slow and cautious. The good news is that the combo of sunscreen + tretinoin is the most powerful anti-aging weapon there is, everything else is "a nice to have"
Thank you very much for all your advise!
With reactive skin, figuring out what not to use is as important as what to use. Could you share your current routine - what skincare products do you use?
