I didn't have frequent breakouts before starting this routine. I tried to keep it simple and not do too much so I could avoid overloading my skin. I have been getting more painful blemishes than before. Is this skin purging or is it a reaction to the new routine?
As an added note, maybe add a sulfur mask like De La Cruz 10% sulfur ointment once a week into your routine. It seriously worked wonders for me when I was breaking out. Heals my acne way faster than before I started using it.
I'm looking online and seeing really great reviews, and it's, like, dirt cheap! I just ordered some off of Amazon. Thanks! :)
The La Roche Posay Moisturizer does have several pore clogging ingredients in it. They are Myristyl Myristate, Glyceryl Stearate SE & Myristic Acid. So that very well could be the culprit. I’m acne prone as well and recommend finding a good gel moisturizer or water cream with no pore cloggers and soothing ingredients. I’ve learned the hard way to always check ingredients before buying anything and you can do that through this website. Also, acneclinicnyc.com is a great website where you can copy in the ingredients to any skincare product and it’ll highlight anything comedogenic. Best of luck and let us know how your journey progresses!
Okay, I'm going to stop using it for a while and see if I stop getting new pimples. Thanks for the great advice! :)
The ordinary serum that you have was way too strong for me and caused me to gain a lot of dryness, texture, and purging. Both niacinamide can cause purging and zinc is very drying, so I definitely suggest looking for some serums with a much less concentration and more hydrates to buffer this effect!
Niacinamide above 5% is too strong. Personally, I don't love The Ordinary as they tend to put higher concentrations in their products than necessary. I recommend the Vichy Niacinamide at 5% with Tranexamic acid in it. I use it most nights of the week and I'm very happy with it.
Also, you could be reacting to the moisturizer you're using as there are some actives in it that may be irritating your skin. Maybe try the La-Roche Posay Cicaplast B5 Balm. I've been using that as well and I love the texture. It's very soothing.
