Burnt face from Drunk Elephant Babyfacial

Hi,

I’m hoping someone can please give me some advice. About 10 days ago I used Drunk Elephant’s Babyfacial mask. It’s has a blend of 25% AHA and 2% BHA. I had used the product before and was fine, however this time it burnt parts of my face - under my eyes (on the orbital bone) around my mouth and on my nose). I went to see a pharmacist and was given some Aqueous Calamine cream to help sooth the burn. The redness has calmed down but my skin is still very sensitive. If I try and put any products containing hyaluronic acid in my face feels like it’s burning again and the redness comes back. Has anyone else been in this position before? How long did it take for your skin to calm down and what did you put on it in the meantime? The skin under my eyes looks very dry so anything that can be recommended would be appreciated!

Thanks!

Oh no, I’m so sorry to hear about your experience…

The time to heal can be very individual and your skin might remain more sensitive for quite some time, even when the initial redness is gone. I’d go very low on washing and water contact (only wash when you actually have stuff to remove), and use a barrier cream (like La Roche Posay cicaplast) and/ or healing ointments like Aquaphor. It is very important to protect your skin from sun to avoid pigmentation problems. It would be best to use fragrance free mineral based sunscreen (the texture can be heavier that you’d normally like but it’s worth it in this situation).

Keep the rest of your skincare to the minimum for the healing period and re-introduce skincare slowly, one product at a time per week for example t be able to note your skin reaction.

Best of luck to you - hope your skin gets better very soon!
