What could possibly cause this reaction?

Hi all!

I’ve recently bought the Thank You Farmer water sun cream spf. However, after applying it the first time, after an hour or so my skin got extremely warm, itchy and a bit red. So I washed my face and this weird sensation went away. I applied it again: it started all over again. I have had the exact same reaction with the Banila Co Hello Sunny Hydrating Sun Essence SPF50+. Sunscreens that I used without any problem are the Mesoestetic Mesoprotech Melan Pigment Control 130+ and LRP UVMune400 tinted fluid.

Anyone ideas on which ingredient I have to avoid? And any good sunscreen recommendations?

I think the most likely suspects are cinnamates ( A bit more information about them here: https://dermnetnz.org/topics/allergy-to-cinnamate. Your reaction might not be either allergic or irritant). Thank You Farmer sunscreens uses Octinoxate (Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate) https://whatsinmyjar.com/skincare-ingredients/ethylhexyl-methoxycinnamate. Banila Co Hello Sunny Hydrating Sun Essence includes another type of a cinnamate UV filter called Amiloxate (Isoamyl p-methoxycinnamate) https://whatsinmyjar.com/skincare-ingredients/isoamyl-p-methoxycinnamate. The two sunscreens you tolerated well don't include cinnamates.

Cinnamates can also be in fragrances, both natural and synthetic, so it would be the safest for you to go for fragrance-free skincare in general.
