Trying a new vitamin C (ascorbic acid) serum

I was using Cerave vitamin C 10% serum for over a year. Loved it and still do actually. It works well for me - sometimes even instead of a moisturizer in the morning. I was just feeling experimental this week and ordered Paula’s Choice Vitamin C 15% booster. I’m excited to see if I’ll notice any difference in skin brightness.

On the first application, it’s definitely less hydrating than the Cerave one (no surprise here). It has a distinct smell, and I weirdly like it. The skin feels a bit tacky after it, but sunscreen went on nicely. I’ll report back in a couple of weeks.

Ok, smth else to report. I had a bit of the Paula’s Choice serum left on my hand, and my cat 🐈 seemed obsessed with licking it off. I had to wash it off my hands to make sure not to give her diarrhea 🙈

Why choose vitamin c, why not other ingredients?

I like that vitamin C is a multitasking ingredient: it works to lessen the sun damage (as an anti-oxidant), stimulates collagen production and also helps even out the skin tone (for me I appreciate that it helps prevent post-inflammatory pigmentation I can get from occasional blemishes). There is a lot more evidence of its effectiveness compared to other antioxidants. Plus, my skin tolerates it well - I don't get irritation even from 15% concentration like this Paula's Choice serum.

But I also use retinoids and azelaic acid, so it's not just vitamin C😃. How about you? What actives do you prefer?
