Hi. Luckily There are ways to manage it, you can try some gentle exfoliation, stuff like mandelic or azelaic acid works wonders, and try to steer clear of really thick, heavy creams.. A tiny bit of retinoid can also help keep things clear. And don't forget your sunscreen.

Any brands that you recommend? I am an esthetician student as well. Would I use the retinol over the face or just spot treat?

Brands I trust for gentle yet effective retinols are Paula’s Choice, their 0.3% is a great starter, SkinMedica, or Medik8.For sebaceous hyperplasia specifically, though, professional treatments like electrodesiccation or low-dose Accutane if your derm recommends tend to be more direct. As a student, you might also be exploring niacinamide, The Ordinary or Glossier, and azelaic acid, Paula’s Choice again, to keep pores calm. As for how to use retinol, you’ll want to apply it all over the face, not just as a spot treatment.
