Hello! We have a Bernese Mountain Dog puppy who is very affectionate and loves to lick humans - a lot. I've noticed there are an increasing number of common skincare products containing xylitol and xylitol derivatives, an ingredient known to cause serious and even fatal health issues in pets. I know a few years back there was a scare about xylitol being in peanut butter, but what are the risks to pets from ingesting xylitol from skincare products?
(P.S. erring on the side of the overcautious pet parent all the skincare in the house - and peanut butter - is xylitol free)
P.S.S - just got off the phone with our vet and the answer is be very wary of xylitol and xylitol derivatives on skincare around pets as it can cause serious harm.
