Melasma above lip

Hi. I am suffering form deep pigmentation above my upper lip. It seems worse after trauma and sun exposure so Ive been avoiding the sun and waxing the area. Is there any proven treatment I can use in that specific area to treat the uneven skin?

I'm sorry you're having to deal with that. Hyperpigmentation/melasma can be stubborn to treat without a dermatologist. Luckily, there are bunch of derms on YouTube. Here are some videos on your specific skin concern that include product recommendations:

Good luck!

The YouTube creators I recommended (Dr. Dray and Doctorly) have a bunch of videos on hyperpigmentation and melasma. I just provided a couple.

Absolutely agree with @MintYulip on consulting with a derm if you can.

From the papers I've reviewed, the #1 priority is indeed sun protection. With actives, the key is using potent ones but without causing irritation. It is also a good idea to follow the overall sensitive skin routine (avoid fragrance, over cleansing). The top actives I'd look in are niacinamide, azelaic acid, thiamidol. You can read more about anti-pigmentation actives with good evidence behind them here: https://whatsinmyjar.com/resources/pigmentation-issues.
