I have recently started this regimen and currently my face is purging, hopefully that means this will clear up my acne in a couple weeks?
I am currently working to clear up my acne. I have oily acne prone skin that breaks out frequently.
Hi! Thanks for the recommendations. Would you say these are better than salicylic acid? Also is it too much to apply the exfoliating agent everyday?
I suggest going to your Dermatologist first but in the meantime Get on adapalene! Differin or La Roche-Posay are good and are over the counter. Start off once a week for the 2 weeks then, twice a week for 2 weeks and so forth until you can do every night (do the retinoid sandwich method) moisturizer, retinoid(pea size) Moisturizer PM routine. I've been on it for 10 months now and by the 4 month for me magic happens 😉 Good luck and stay consistent! Please, please use sunscreen everyday, it is the first step to stopping acne and dark marks on face. ♥
Thank you for your reply! Have you had any experience with salicylic acid?
Salicylic acid is helpful, but it alone can't fully resolve the acne issue. The LRP toner also has quite a high % of alcohol so it's not an ideal product for acne (drying alcohol can actually make acne worse by weakening the skin barrier & making the skin more prone to inflammation).
I would incorporate salicylic acid 2% serum / liquid 1-2 times a day, but rely on other actives for daily / more frequent use (Retinoids like Nita suggests is a very good option)
Sorry, meant to type "salicylic acid 2% serum / liquid 1-2 times *a week*", not day 🙈
Yes I do. I use paulas choice 1% bha for sensitive skin once a week. PM routine Sun Exfoliate, Mon Ret, Tue through Sat keep it simple.
Thank you so much for both of your recommendations, it really means a lot!
You should definitely add sunscreen in the morning routine to prevent post-acne marks from the purging! What helped my acne clear up was mostly epiduo forte gel (adapalene + benzoyl peroxide). Also, from the la roche posay effaclar line I really liked the clay mask, it helped me with oiliness and maybe (secondary) with breakouts.
Sunscreen girl. Changes your freaking life. Mineral base. Maybe with a tiny? La roche has a good tinted sunscreen and so does Elta md. They are not different in my option. I just feel a little more better with the Elta. That’s what has helped with my skin.
I'd recommend 2 things: add a daily broad spectrum sunscreen to prevent post-acne pigmentation and look into retinoids, azelaic acid & niacinamide. I am hoping this guide can help give some guidance https://whatsinmyjar.com/resources/acne-clogged-pores but please come back with questions here!
