hello,
i have oily acne prone skin manageable however now I'm left with the dark spot to deal with and a little bit of hyperpigmentation. In addition with my current routine and products using would like to add on few more products that i believe will help with my current issues. these products are Paulas choice 20% niacinamide, 10% azelaic acid, lactic acid, Can you please recommend on how to incorporate all these actives? would wish for a glass skin and yet a super duper health skin barrier,
Also, would you please recommend a moisturizer that is best for hyperpigmentation and that protects the skin barrier at the same time?
Thank you.
Hello there! If you are concerned with the health of skin barrier, I'd recommend to remove the products with potentially irritating plant extracts & fragrance from your routine (especially since you are using potent actives, it's best to save your skin tolerance for them). This would mean stopping Axis-Y Dark Spot Correcting Glow Serum, Glow Recipe Watermelon sleeping mask, and even Naturium Plant Ceramide Rich Moisture cream (because of the Rosmarinus Officinalis Leaf Extract, even though the concentration of it in the cream is super low, so it might be fine).
I don't think you need 20% niacinamide product, 4-6% of niacinamide is an effective concentration. Vichy 89 (https://whatsinmyjar.com/product/vichy-mineral-89-probiotic-fractions-recovery-serum-for-stressed-skin-with-4-niacinamide) contains 4%, and it is enough to get the results from this active. You can use it 2x daily. I'd not alternate it and use consistently.
Azelaic acid would be a great addition to your routine. I wouldn't go for the Paula's Choice product because it also contains salicylic acid, and with daily application (+ 2x a week BHA 2%) it can lead to over-exfoliation. Alternative azelaic acid products:

I'd be careful with adding more exfoliants to your routine (e.g. lactic acid), you could consider alternating and AHA peel with your BHA liquid, or use a combo product instead (but also no more than 2x a week all exfoliants combined) - e.g. https://whatsinmyjar.com/product/cerave-blemish-control-gel-moisturiser-with-2-salicylic-acid-niacinamide-for-blemish-prone-skin
