My favorite skin care product I've been using for years is Estee Lauder Advanced Time Zone and it's been discontinued. I've been on the hunt for something similar and I'm not finding it. I've tried so many and I'm now broken out with wrinkles! Ugh. I'm just wondering what product would be similar to the ingredients in the Estee Lauder's Time Zone. I loved the day face cream with the SPF 15. Every other day cream I've tried with sunscreen feels greasy. I have combination skin that is sensitive and tend to break out easily. Estee Lauder's Advanced Time Zone was the best product for me personally in everyway. I need recommendations on what to try next. Thank you!
Estee Lauder Time Zone discontinued...
Thank you so much for your recommendations! I had no idea Clinique was a sister company to Estee Lauder. Thats interesting because when I was younger I used a lot of the Clinique. But since I've aged it just doesn't work the same now. I have one more quick question. If I drop the SPF in a moisturizer all together what others are similar to the Time Zone? I tried the Estee Lauder resilience lift SPF 15, but it's too heavy, stings and I broke out. I'm noticing most of the moisturizers I'm trying with spf sting and I break out. I like that the time zone goes on light and doesn't feel heavy, doesn't sting, smooths wrinkles and I don't ever break out. My foundation has a sunscreen so I don't really need the SPF in my moisturizer. I just want to look good again! 😊
It could be that your skin does not like Octocrylene. It's a UV filter that is in the Resilience lift but is not in the Time Zone. Also, it seems that your skin barrier is weakened right now, and it would be a good idea to go for a fragrance-free moisturizer.
Unfortunately, you cannot get a proper sun protection from dropping a sunscreen into another moisturizer. Also, the SPF in makeup is not enough if you would like to avoid the aging impact of the sun light (we would have to apply A LOT of foundation to achieve the SPF promised on the bottom + the protection often covers only half of the spectrum - UVB rays, but not UVA that also cause aging).
My recommendation would be to try a very gentle fragrance-free moisturizer with mineral UV filters (they do not sting and work for most sensitive skin types). It could be that the texture feels slightly heavier, but the benefit for the skin should overweigh it.
Paula's Choice has a couple of good candidates: https://whatsinmyjar.com/product/paulas-choice-hydralight-shine-free-mineral-complex-spf-30; https://whatsinmyjar.com/product/paulas-choice-defense-essential-glow-moisturizer-spf-30-full-size; https://whatsinmyjar.com/product/paulas-choice-resist-anti-aging-super-light-daily-wrinkle-defense-spf-30-full-size; https://whatsinmyjar.com/product/paulas-choice-redness-relief-spf-30-mineral-moisturizer-for-normal-to-dry-skin.
Another brand that could work is Supergoop: https://whatsinmyjar.com/product/supergoop-mattescreen-sunscreen-spf-40.
A few other options: https://whatsinmyjar.com/product/skinmedica-essential-defense-mineral-shield-broad-spectrum-spf-35, https://whatsinmyjar.com/product/elta-md-uv-elements-broad-spectrum-spf-44
I don't go in the sun at all. I've had all of the skin cancers including melanoma so my days of baking in the sun are long over! Wish I could go back in time and change that. I'll try something really mild with a sunscreen. Thank you for your suggestions! You've been a huge help! I love this website! 😊
I hope you find a broad spectrum sunscreen that you can wear daily - please let us know if these suggestions did not work for you, we have thousands of products in the database, we should be able to find something that works even if with a bit of trial and error, we'd really love to help, snd your skin needs broad-spectrum protection even if you stay in the shade (UVA rays are damaging, but they do not burn and we get them even if we stay in a shade). Please take care!
I was looking at dupes for Estee Lauder advanced time zone day and Origins plantscription SPF 25 anti aging cream came up. What are your thoughts on this product? The thing I loved about the Estee Lauder advanced time zone is it didn't go on thick and greasy and there was something in it that would firm my skin, it didn't sting and I didn't break out. And my foundation would go on smoothly over the top of it (that also has spf 15) I tried Estee Lauder Daywear SPF 15 but that's one stings. I also tried the Clinique Smart SPF 15, it stings too. And I'm not getting that nice firming smooth feeling I would get with the time zone with anything. I'm really trying to find a duplicate as close to the time zone as possible. I loved everything about it. I wish I could get samples of everything else to try before I had to buy. Ha.
I am guessing here, but it could be that the ingredient that you felt was giving the firming effect was acetyl glucosamine. If that's true, than you might like this one: https://whatsinmyjar.com/product/neostrata-neostrata-clarify-sheer-hydration-sunscreen-broad-spectrum-spf40 (please ignore the anti-blemish and exfoliation claims it is making - I think the AHA mention is actually a mistake in the product description by the manufacturer). The formula looks similar to the time zone one for the main ingredients.
Do you still have some of the time zone cream left? Could you double check that it still does not sting? (It could happen that skin gets suddenly sensitized and reactive even to products that were fine in the past).
This is another similar formula: https://whatsinmyjar.com/product/exuviance-sheer-refining-fluid-spf-35 (Exuviance and Neostrata belong together)
I still have a little bit of the Time Zone. I dip into like it's gold. Lol. It doesn't make my face sting at all. In fact I've been using it to take the sting away from others I'm trying. The Time Zone was like it was made just for me! When it first came out years ago I got it in an Estee Lauder gift with purchase and I was blown away by how much better my skin looked! From that moment on I was sold. I will try both of the others you suggested. I work nights and sleep during the day so I rarely ever see the sun. If I have to be in the sun for any reason I use CeraVe tinted SPF 50 on my face. I don't like it but I need to protect my skin after having skin cancer. Anyway, I've gone on to try many moisturizers even without sunscreen for when I'm not in the sun. I just don't like anything. I have a whole collection now! 🤣 Nordstrom has been good to let me return or exchange some God bless them. Thank you so much for your help! Eventually I will solve this. I have to because life goes on! 😊
Did you ever find a good replacement for Time Zone? I’m in the same situation as you!
No! Lol. I've lost count but I'm sure I've tried close to 50 different moisterizers! (Many samples) There are a few I kind of like? Clarins Extra firming Jour spf 15, PCA collagen hydrator, First Aid Beauty firming collagen cream and First Aid Beauty ultra repair face moisturizer. I don't know why I can't find anything I like. I just ordered Clinique even better skin tone correcting moisturizer SPF 20 to try. I would love to hear what you've tried and if you kind of like anything? Maybe we kind find something if we put our heads together! 😊
RIVERSOL!!! ❤️
It's amazing!
RIVERSOL! You can get a free 15 day trial! Google it and you'll find it there. I might go with the heavier moisturizer. Right now I'm using the daily moisturizer and the anti redness serum and refreshing gel cleanser. I want to try everything! I love it! ❤️
The Riversol feels different than the Estee Lauder Advanced Time Zone SPF 15 but I had to find something that didn't make me break out and I could apply my foundation over. I still like the Clarins Extra Firming SPF 15 and I kind of like the Estee Lauder Day wear SPF 15 but I have to add something to it that has more moisture because it's not moisterizing enough. I am going to try the Riversol anti aging serum with their concentrated moisturizer next. You definitively
should give it a try with the free samples!
Don't try the Clinique Even Better skin tone correcting moisturizer SPF 20! That is at the bottom of my 50 plus list of trials next to Origins Plantscription SPF 25 which I disliked even more. I like the Clinique Smart SPF 15 or the Clarins Extra Firming Jour SPF 15 much better. The Clinique Even Better skin tone correcting SPF 20 is like putting on a thick heavy greasy sunscreen and it smells terrible! Applying foundation over it was a greasy nightmare. What I like about the Estee Lauder Advanced Time Zone SPF 15 is it's light and
has a watery feeling to it, yet gives me the perfect balance of hydration. It has such a fresh scent and I never break out. My foundation glides over the top of it perfectly! I tend to break out with a sunscreen moisturizer. I'm so sad they discontinued the Time Zone! Why would they do that? It was a best seller! 😭
I just realized you responded. I went ahead and purchased the Clarins Extra Firming Jour SPF 15 because I’m desperate. But same, I liked the Time Zone a lot! It just felt so good when it went on and was so light weight. I’ve tried different ones too and they don’t have the same effect. Thanks for your response if I EVER run into a similar moisturizer, I’ll let you know!
Hello! I am in the same situation as you. I have tried so many different creams but there is nothing like the Esteé Lauder Advanced Time Zone. Have you been able to find anything similar? Thank you!
P.s. I'm really looking for something to help with wrinkles. I don't like layering products at all. I'm looking for a day cream that is an anti aging, anti inflammatory and moisturizer and added sunscreen is a bonus. I used to use NuSkin NaPCA before the Time Zone but I was younger then. I have it but it doesn't work as well now at my age. But it doesn't sting!
The NuSkin product (https://whatsinmyjar.com/product/nuskin-napca-moisture-mist) is a great but simple hydrating formula, so I am not surprised it doesn't sting 👍.
I hear you re the layering, but the best strategy might actually be to use 2 steps (an anti-aging serum and a light gentle moisturizer with a bit of sun protection) for the day to get the best anti-aging benefits without risking irritation and stinging. It also would allow you to skip the serum on days where you feel that your skin is sensitive (the fact that you experience stinging with many products means that your skin barrier is weakened - could be the result of trying many products and needs time to heal). Skipping the serum altogether or using it at night instead is also ok - the moisturizers below still contain helpful anti-aging ingredients (but nothing to expect a serious improvement).
The combo could look like this:
Serum with ascorbic acid (can help stimulate collagen production with long-term use + brightens the skin tone):
- https://whatsinmyjar.com/product/cerave-skin-renewing-face-serum-with-vitamin-c-and-hyaluronic-acid (btw this one works as a light moisturizer for night time if your skin doesn't feel dry)
- https://whatsinmyjar.com/product/timeless-20-vitamin-c-e-ferulic-acid-serum (the concentration of vit C in this one might be too high for sensitive skin though)
Moisturizer with light sun protection without octocrylene (I suspect octocrylene might sting your skin):
Once you solve the stinging, it would be wonderful if your skin could tolerate a retinoid. Retinoids are the most powerful anti-aging ingredients there is (after sun screen), but they are often irritating. So healing the skin barrier comes first.
Hi! I am on the same boat. I have been using it for probably 10 years and I am so sad that I have not found a replacement. I had tried other creams by estee lauder and other brands and nothing compares to this one. I love that my wrinkles were almost gone. I am missing so much this cream. :(
Ah, I am sorry you found your favorite being discontinued! Estee Lauder has another one with a quite similar formula: https://whatsinmyjar.com/product/este-lauder-resilience-multi-effect-tri-peptide-face-and-neck-creme.
This moisturizer from Clinique (the same parent company as Estee Lauder) has similar ingredients, but the texture will be slightly lighter: https://whatsinmyjar.com/product/clinique-even-better-skin-tone-correcting-lotion-broad-spectrum-spf-20. Another candidate: https://whatsinmyjar.com/product/clinique-superdefense-spf-25-fatigue-1st-signs-of-age-multi-correcting-cream-for-combination-oily-to-oily-skin
This is another option, but again, probably a lighter texture: https://whatsinmyjar.com/product/aveeno-absolutely-ageless-anti-wrinkle-facial-moisturizer-with-spf-30-sunscreen-antioxidant-rich-blackberry-complex-vitamins-c-e-non-comedogenic-oil-free-moisturizer.
Here is another one from Paula's Choice, but with different UV filters used (https://whatsinmyjar.com/product/paulas-choice-defense-essential-glow-moisturizer-spf-30-full-size).
Hope this helps!
