moisture barrier repair

27 Jan

Hello :) What are the best products to repair my moisture barrier after retinol application completely destroyed my skin, inducing the rosacea i am prone to (my parents both have it). I have learned from google that I should use a gentle cream cleanser, water infusing toner and essence, niacinamide, hyaluronic acid, and a good moisturizer. Is that accurate and which products do you suggest?

Hello! Sorry to hear your skin is in trouble. The most important part of restoring your skin barrier is leaving your skin alone to a large extent. In other words, it is best to use as few products as possible, with each one having a simple, minimalistic formulation. #1 product you need is a non-irritating moisturizer. Here are a few good options. All of them already contain good humectants (e.g. hyaluronic acid, glycerin) and niacinamide, so you don't need additional products : https://whatsinmyjar.com/product/cerave-skin-renewing-night-cream-to-soften-skin https://whatsinmyjar.com/product/olay-total-effects-anti-aging-fragrance-free-moisturizer https://whatsinmyjar.com/product/paulas-choice-clear-oil-free-moisturizer https://whatsinmyjar.com/product/cosrx-honey-ceramide-full-moisture-cream https://whatsinmyjar.com/product/cerave-moisturising-cream https://whatsinmyjar.com/product/e-l-f-cosmetics-superhydrate-moisturizer When you go outside or sit next to a window, you need to use a sunscreen. A zinc-oxide based sunscreen would be the most gentle option (it's best to wear a hat as well if you are in a direct sun). A few options: https://whatsinmyjar.com/product/skinmedica-essential-defense-mineral-shield-broad-spectrum-spf-35 https://whatsinmyjar.com/product/skinceuticals-sheer-physical-uv-defense-spf50 https://whatsinmyjar.com/product/epionce-ultra-shield-lotion-spf-50 https://whatsinmyjar.com/product/babo-botanicals-clear-zinc-sunscreen-spf-30 It's a good idea to cleanse your skin once per day, at night, and it is definitely needed if you've used a sunscreen. A few options of gentle cleansers: https://whatsinmyjar.com/product/avene-antirougeurs-clean-cleanser https://whatsinmyjar.com/product/the-ordinary-squalane-cleanser https://whatsinmyjar.com/product/la-roche-posay-la-roche-posay-toleriane-dermo-cleanser-sensitive-skin. You don't really need additional essences, toners or serums - in fact, it is better to keep your skincare to the minimum, and give your skin at least 4-6 weeks to recover before you judge the results. Best of luck to you!
